Avenged Sevenfold was formed in 1999 founded by singer Matthew Shadows, a classmate of his, Jimmy Sullivan, and Zacky Vengeance. They are joined by bassist Justin Sane, but he leaves in 2001 replaced by Dameon Ash; there is also room in the group for another guitarist, the talented Synyster Gates. Having obtained a stable lineup, the group releases a few demos that procure a signing by the Goodlife Recording label.
