Halsey was born on 29 September 1994 in Edison, New Jersey, to an African-American father and an Italian mother. She began studying music as a teenager, playing the violin, viola and cello, before switching to acoustic guitar at the age of 14, stating that the first song she learned to play was Taylor Swift’s “Fifteen”.
